Star Wars 8 The Last Jedi: You won’t BELIEVE how long the original cut was

Star Wars movies are known for being around the two hour mark and so far haven’t followed the two and a half to three hour trend seen by many recent blockbusters.

However The Last Jedi will be the longest Star Wars movie to date at 151 minutes.

Now director Johnson has revealed the original cut was over three hours long, but he felt it had to be shortened back.

Speaking with Collider, the filmmaker said: “We had a long movie from the start. It was well over three hours, the first cut… It’s much better at two and a half [hours] than it was at over three, but it was a cut I had put together, is where we started. And it was over three hours.”

Johnson continued: “I’m really not into [releasing an extended cut]. I feel like the cut is what it is because I feel like it’s the best version of the movie, so the director’s cut is the movie that’s going out in theatres.

“All the deleted scenes, no matter how much I love them, they came out for a reason and it’s all for the greater good of the movie itself.

“You can watch the deleted scenes on their own, I think that’s the way to watch them, but the movie is definitely the best version of the movie I think.”

The director has also spoken out on how close Star Wars The Last Jedi fan theories are to the truth.

Speaking with Screen Rant, he said: “I mean, nothing that’s really nailed big stuff. No, which… I love reading the fan theories.

“You know, having been a Star Wars fan myself and been on the other side of the curtain most of my life it’s pretty cool to be back behind, like peeking through saying seeing like I would have people guessing.”

Star Wars 8 The Last Jedi will be released in UK cinemas on December 14, 2017.
